Venus Transit

June 5-2012

About Image:

The 2012 transit of Venus occurred on June 5โ€“6, 2012. During this roughly 6-hour event, Venus appeared as a small, dark dot moving across the face of the Sun. Transits of Venus are among the rarest predictable celestial phenomena; they occur in pairs 8 years apart, followed by gaps of over a century.Because the 2012 event was the second of an eight-year pair following the June 2004 transit, it marked the last opportunity for anyone alive to witness it. The next Venus transits will not occur until December 10โ€“11, 2117, and December 8, 2125.
