Venus Transit

June 5-2012

About Image:

The 2012 transit of Venus occurred on June 5–6, 2012. During this roughly 6-hour event, Venus appeared as a small, dark dot moving across the face of the Sun. Transits of Venus are among the rarest predictable celestial phenomena; they occur in pairs 8 years apart, followed by gaps of over a century.Because the 2012 event was the second of an eight-year pair following the June 2004 transit, it marked the last opportunity for anyone alive to witness it. The next Venus transits will not occur until December 10–11, 2117, and December 8, 2125.
